The Bright Beginnings Foundation scholarships will be awarded to Surrey students who are in need of financial assistance to attain post-secondary educational goals. Such students should also demonstrate a good work ethic and the academic potential required to succeed in attaining a post-secondary education.

Written applications will be accepted from students who have attended a Surrey School District public secondary school. All applications received will be treated with the strictest confidence. The BBF Selection Committee will review all written applications and conduct personal interviews with a select number of applicants. BBF reserves the right to award scholarships at its sole discretion. Decisions made by the Selection Committee are final. Reasons for selections are the private information of BBF and will not be shared.  All applications submitted to the BBF Selection Committee remain the property of BBF and will not be returned to the applicant.

The Bright Beginnings Foundation scholarship will be awarded to the successful candidate(s) for the purpose of assisting them in attaining a diploma or graduation certificate from an accredited university, college or trade school. BBF Financial support may include, but not necessarily be limited to, items such as tuition, public transit pass, text books, course materials and, perhaps, some living expenses.

The extent of support will be decided on a case-by-case basis. BBF reserves the right to monitor the student’s progress to ensure they are progressing successfully in their education endeavours and continued funding is warranted. To this end BBF will request at intervals academic transcripts and a brief summary of the student’s progress via written reports or personal interviews.

BBF reserves the right to adjust the level of financial support to meet the changing needs of the student. For this purpose the student should retain original receipts of expenses or income statements and submit them as required by BBF.

We regret that due to current BC government policy we are unable to award the BBF scholarship to a student who is collecting BC Income Assistance. We are hopeful that this policy will change soon.
