Bright Beginnings Foundation is hosting a special Paint Night on Wednesday, May 27 from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at Ecole Salish Secondary (7278 184th St, Surrey).
This isn’t your ordinary art class. The session will be led by Leanne Whynot and Sofia Trujillo, two of Surrey’s own talented teachers and professional artists. They’ll guide you through a step-by-step painting session designed for all skill levels, helping you create something you’ll be proud to take home.
What’s included for $40:

Whether you’re a seasoned painter or haven’t touched a brush since elementary school, this is a wonderful opportunity to unwind, learn something new, and support students in need.

Join the Aequitas Singers on May 30 for a Special Benefit Concert
The Aequitas Singers is a Surrey-based social justice choir that believes that music has the power to move hearts and advance the cause of equality, justice, and respect for all peoples. That belief brings us to their upcoming benefit concert, There is Something About This Country, on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
This year they have named the Bright Beginnings Foundation as the concert beneficiary.

Bright Beginnings: Two reasons to celebrate today

🤫 Something big is happening for BBF and we can’t wait to share it with you. Stay tuned!
The wait is over — we have two major developments to share that speak to both the impact of your past support and the bright future ahead.
First: 2026 may be our biggest year yet. For the first time in the foundation’s history, BBF will award two full-ride bursaries. The selection committee is currently conducting interviews, and the level of talent and promise in this year’s applicant pool is extraordinary. Beyond tuition, we’re also making sure our students are day-one-ready by providing gently-used laptops to help them succeed from their first day of classes. (Thank you to LMDG Building Codes and Diverse-city for providing the laptops)
Second: The “Bright Beginnings model” is going provincial. At the recent BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) Annual General Meeting, teachers from across the province approached us. They’ve been following our work and want to know: how can they replicate what we’ve done in their own districts?
Over eleven years, seven students have graduated or are currently in their programs, with two more joining them this year — all made possible by community support. Teachers want this success story everywhere.
We are thrilled to help. Our team is developing a “BBF Blueprint” presentation to share our lessons learned. We’ll be presenting it in Port Hardy first, and for those who can’t join us in person, we’re planning a webinar this fall to show how your community can start something similar.
