Criteria and Eligibility
Only students who fulfill the following conditions will be eligible to apply for and receive a BBF Bursary
- You require financial assistance to be able to attend a post-secondary institution
- You must have a combined family income under $50,000 per year. Successful applicants will be asked to bring an official document (e.g. family income tax statement, evidence of government assistance) to the interview.
- You have the ability academically and emotionally to succeed in a post-secondary educational environment
- You demonstrate the tenacity to achieve your goals
If you fulfill all of the above criteria, please read the following Eligibility Requirements.
Eligibility Requirements
- BBF Bursary applicants must graduate from a Surrey public secondary school or learning centre
- Students must be ineligible for the BC Tuition Waiver Program (for former youth in care)
- They must plan to attend and study full-time at an accredited British Columbia public post-secondary university, college or trade school
- Students who have previously received a bursary from the BBF and did not meet the requirements will not be eligible to re-apply unless invited to do so by the BBF Selection Committee
- If the successful applicant would like to make changes to the program they originally intended to attend, prior approval must be obtained by the BBF Selection Committee to ensure continued funding
- Scholarships, grant or bursaries received by students from other sources must be disclosed promptly and may be taken into account when calculating BBF’s bursary. Anything up to $2,000 does not reduce the amount of financial support given by BBF. If students receive more than $2,000 in other financial awards, students must put any money over $2,000 into their student account at their post-secondary institute to be put toward tuition fees and educational materials.
- Students must agree that, upon successful completion of their educational program, they will submit an impact statement to BBF to be used on the BBF website and promotional materials. A photo of the student holding their diploma would be appreciated but is not a requirement.
- When established in their own careers, students are encouraged to fund another person in furthering his or her post-secondary education. This can be accomplished either personally or by donating to Bright Beginnings Foundation
