BBF has SO many exciting announcements to make! I hardly know where to begin.
Just a few nights ago, we held a fun-filled evening at Rusty’s pub in Cloverdale. Our first annual Bright Futures for Surrey Youth Pub Night (and yes, we will hold a Pub Night next year) was a HUGE success. We had a record number of attendees, the best silent auction items that we have ever had, raffles, a 50/50 draw and fun toonie toss games. By all accounts, this was our most successful event ever, realizing enough money to fund a full term of university (tuition, fees, books, and supplies) for one of our students.
Our second announcement is that Bright Beginnings Foundation has attained official legal status as a registered non-profit society. This will enable us to access more grants from agencies that require such status. Financially, we are still under the umbrella of Vancity Community Foundations and they still issue tax receipts on our behalf.
Third, BBF recently received 15 gently-used Dell Computers from Spartan Controls. We offered them to our 2023 BBF Bursary applicants and found homes for 10 of them. We will offer the remaining five to our 2024 applicants. Thank you, Spartan Controls, for this amazing donation!
Our Two Popular Spring Fundraisers!!
Both events are at 11262 Sussex Place in North Delta
Saturday, March 16: Mushroom Manure sale
Spring is here and it’s time to start planning those gardens and containers!
We have pre-bagged manure. 20 litres for $3.00 and 60 litres for $8.00.
A big thank you to Port Kells Nursery for kindly donating two yards of mushroom manure plus delivery costs.
Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5: Sylvia’s Plant Sale
Due to popular demand, our 7th annual Sylvia’s Plant Sale will be held for two days.
Come early for the best selection of plants! They get snapped up quickly!
In recounting BBF’s fun events and successes, we are always aware of why we are here. We have just accepted more applications for the BBF Bursary than we have ever received before. While our task of going through the applications from students in need is sometimes heartbreaking, we are also gratified that we will be able to help yet another student realize their dreams. We are buoyed by the fact that we are able to provide the opportunities that every parent wants for their child. |
Here is a special message for you…
“I am an educator who supports BBF with a monthly donation. I believe that all Surrey graduates should be able to attend Post Secondary Institutions. I believe that my donation to BBF is the best investment I can make to our future.”
Donating monthly is easily arranged throught Vancity Community Foundation. Here is the link.
