As you can imagine, December is a very busy month for BBF Directors! We thank the Surrey Fire Fighters
Charitable Society (SFFCS) for giving us our second opportunity to fundraise for Surrey youth and their
families. Thanks to the SFFCS’s support, we will be wrapping Christmas gifts at Guildford Town Centre this
December, and you can help us make a difference. Join us virtually on Dec. 13, 18, 21, and/or 23, and participate in the
giving spirit! While you are buying presents for your loved ones, you can also help support a BBF student.
This year Dylan Van Rooyen (SFFCS rep.) has issued us a challenge. “Surrey Fire Fighters have a HOT challenge for you. We challenge BBF supporters to match all or a portion of every dollar BBF raises.”
Here’s how it works.
- You can participate in this challenge as an individual, family, or group of colleagues or friends.
- Select your date (Dec 13, 18, 21, and/or 23).
- Let us know your name, contact information, your selected date/s, and the amount you would like to pledge. Email tnrneuman@gmail.com with your information.
- You can pledge 10 cents, 25 cents, fifty cents, or a dollar on every dollar we raise on your chosen date/s. Last year, we raised an average of $1,000 per day.
- We will contact you at the end of your selected date/s to let you know how much we raised and how to submit your pledge.
- And here’s an additional incentive: Each pledge (individual or one per group) will be entered into a draw for a bottle of fine wine.
Our volunteers:
BBF sends a big thank-you to the 51 people who have signed up to help with this year’s giftwrapping. We put the call out to a few Surrey secondary schools asking for student volunteers. And, wow, the offers to help just flooded in!
And a special congratulations to Angela Markakis, who was the first to answer our call for giftwrap volunteers. She has won two free admission tickets for our upcoming pub night! Speaking of which …
Our upcoming Pub Night
Last year’s pub night was tons of fun and a huge success for BBF! We raised over $5000 for our students! This year, we are planning our second annual, new and improved, event! Our Bright Futures for Surrey Youth pub night will take place at the beginning of March, 2025, and will feature our famous Toonie Toss, 50/50 draw, and silent auction with fabulous choices.
Stay tuned for more details!
Our students:
Bright Beginnings Foundation (BBF) has three students currently attending post-secondary institutions on a BBF full-ride bursary. We have given a fourth student a $5,000 grant to start them off on their post-secondary journey.
Our first student is in the third year of a business administration degree at SFU and is enjoying the experience of working in their field in a co-op program. Our second student is pursuing a Science Associate degree at Douglas College and is excelling in higher-level math and science courses. Our third student is just completing their first term at SFU. They are in a Bachelor of Arts program with a goal to pursue either criminology or teaching.
In their own words:
“I am incredibly grateful for the support from Bright Beginnings Foundation, which has been instrumental in helping me reach the midpoint of my degree without financial burdens. Your support has been invaluable, and I look forward to continuing this journey with your guidance and support.”
“Bright Beginnings Foundation has already offered extraordinary support, and I appreciate all of your encouragement and belief in me. Not only have my financial burdens been eased, but this opportunity has motivated me to strive for excellence in my academic pursuits. I cannot thank you (enough) for all that you do.”
